Design Engineer, Mechanical

POSITION OVERVIEW: Create, design, build and test mechanical and opto-mechanical subsystems for LI-COR products in a multi-disciplined, concurrent development team setting. Engage in product definition and mechanical architecture development in collaboration with Users and Marketing. Interact with both internal and external manufacturers to support new product designs and current product manufacture. Perform and/or direct mechanical testing to ensure product meets specifications and expectations. Support the manufacturer of both current and future LI-COR products.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (other closely related disciplines may be considered)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated creativity and mechanical design abilities.
  • Demonstrated engineering analysis capabilities
  • 3D CAD/drafting experience (GD&T experience desirable).
  • Familiarity with electronics packaging/enclosures design.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

SPECIFIC:

  • Participate in product requirement definition and mechanical architecture development.
  • Interface with Users and Marketing to define product features and functions.

  • Design mechanical and opto-mechanical subsystems and systems for LI-COR products
  • Interact with internal and external manufacturers to support both prototype and product manufacturing.
  • Integrate mechanical subsystems into final product.

Engineering Mechanical Technician I 

POSITION OVERVIEW: Mechanical support of engineering product development. Create, design, and fully specify mechanical fixtures for product manufacture and test with engineering guidance. Construct prototypes and mock-ups with engineering guidance. Execute, document, and interpret tests required for product development and support. 
 
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
 
EDUCATION: Minimum 2-year Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Computer Aided Design/Drafting, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or equivalent (ABET accredited program preferred). Sufficient experience and professional training may be considered in lieu of degree.
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with both 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting software.  
  • Hands-on experience with basic machining, mechanical troubleshooting, and mechanical repair.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical part tolerancing.
GENERAL:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create, design, specify, construct and verify assembly and test fixtures for new and existing LI-COR products. Work jointly with engineering and manufacturing to understand fixture requirements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical components and systems. Provide suggested resolutions.
  • Design, document, and execute tests for mechanical qualification of LI-COR products using internal and external testing resources. Write meaningful summaries and interpretations.
  • Construct functional and non-functional prototypes with engineering guidance and little direct supervision.
  • Assist development engineers with a variety of tasks during the product design and development process.  
  • Make physical modifications to mechanical parts or coordinate the modification of those parts with outside machine shops.
  • Maintain on-site LI-COR test facilities, and expand test capabilities as necessary. Identify off-site test facilities and coordinate off-site tests.
  • Create, maintain and edit Bills of Materials.
  • Create, maintain, and edit product labels.
  • Specify and source off-the-shelf mechanical parts.
 

Scientist, Spectroscopist

POSITION OVERVIEW:  Research, develop, and evaluate scientific instrumentation for LI-COR products in a multi-disciplined, concurrent development team setting. Investigate existing technologies and develop new technologies in the area of gas-phase laser spectroscopy. Collaborate with external suppliers and partners in technology development and applications. Prototype and test concepts to prove technology feasibility. Support product development teams in the specification, design, build, test, and manufacture of gas analyzer instruments.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: PhD in Physics , Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or Engineering (emphasis in Atomic, Molecular & Optical Physics preferred)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Research and development using optical spectroscopy techniques for gas detection.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the physics of gases and their interaction with light under various environmental conditions.
  • Applying science and technologies to development of commercial instrumentation
  • Proficiency in laboratory experimentation, analysis, and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in developing new technologies, methods, algorithms, applications.
  • Demonstrated scientific and engineering analysis capabilities.
  • Familiarity with lasers and application of lasers in gas detection.
  • Familiarity with absorption spectra of trace gases such as methane, nitrous oxide, ammonia, and isotopes of carbon dioxide.

Marketing Product Manager, Biotechnology

 

POSITION OVERVIEW: The position will be responsible for overall strategic and tactical marketing for products or product lines as assigned, including the positioning, promotion, and market expansion of current products (hardware, software, reagents, services), as well as identifying new markets, products, applications and improvements within the Biotechnology market environment. Interface with all other departments in the company assuming a leadership role to draw a consensus for product development, marketing activities, sales activities, etc…
 
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
 
EDUCATION:
  • B.S. or M.S. in life sciences
  • MBA preferred but not necessary.
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in sales, product management and/or applications and field support of molecular biology reagents or instrument systems. 
  • Minimum three years or more experience leading and working with sales forces and/or distributors.
  • Minimum three years or more experience in business analysis (marketing, market research, finance).
  • New product development in the life science marketplace, preferably from conception through launch.
  • Familiarity with the capital instrument and reagent sale processes and customer support.

Market Development and Growth
  • Identify new products and applications based upon industry expertise to sell into existing target markets and customer segments.
